A size comparison only works when you know what each number measures. Body circumference, flat garment width, foot length and insole length are different fields and should not be mixed.

This independent guide explains the measurement checklist below. It helps organise evidence before a clothing or shoe decision; it cannot guarantee fit from a chart or photograph.

Name the measurement before comparing it

For every value, keep the number, unit, measurement points, source and date. If the method is unclear, mark the comparison incomplete.

1. Separate body and garment records

Keep personal body measurements in one record and the dimensions of a reference garment in another. Label whether a value is a circumference, flat width or length.

A garment's dimensions include its construction and intended fit. Do not treat them as a direct statement of the wearer's body size.

Use a garment you already find comfortable as context, and record how it was measured. Keep personal measurements private when sharing examples.

2. Preserve the seller's chart

Record the chart for the exact product and selected variant, including its original units and any explanation of measurement points.

A general chart from another listing is not evidence for your candidate. If the chart is missing or unreadable, leave the relevant values Unknown.

Keep the source reference and checked date so you can distinguish a later chart revision from your original observation.

3. Convert units without changing the meaning

Use 1 inch = 2.54 cm when a unit conversion is needed. Keep both the original value and the converted value, and state how you rounded it.

For example, 20 inches converts to 50.8 cm. That conversion does not tell you whether the original value was a flat width, circumference or another dimension.

Do not convert a flat width into a body-fit recommendation. First establish that the underlying measurement and intended comparison are appropriate.

4. Keep foot and shoe dimensions distinct

Record foot length as a personal measurement. Keep insole length, outsole length and a seller's recommended foot-length range in separate fields.

Do not compare an outsole measurement directly with your foot length and call it a fit match. The measurement includes different parts of the shoe.

A size label or an international conversion table is context, not a substitute for the product's own measurement evidence and cut.

5. Read a QC measurement photograph

Check that the image shows the correct item, the tape or ruler, its units and both measurement endpoints. Record the visible value and method rather than the value you expected.

If the garment is stretched, folded or photographed at an angle that obscures the endpoints, describe the limitation. Ask for a clearer view through the appropriate service if available.

Keep the original image reference. An unclear photograph should remain an unresolved field.

6. Work through a conflict example

Illustrative example: a seller chart states 70 cm body length, while a QC image appears to show 67 cm. Record both values with their sources and check whether they use the same start and end points.

Do not average them to 68.5 cm. That would create a number neither source supplied and hide the conflict.

If the methods still cannot be aligned, record Needs clarification and name the measurement you need to verify.

7. Turn the comparison into a next action

Use Comparable when the relevant method and units match, Needs evidence when a required value is missing, or Does not meet my requirements when a confirmed value conflicts with your stated need.

Record the reason and date. These labels describe your research state, not a quality or authenticity certification.

Before ordering, recheck the selected size and current listing. A saved chart does not establish that every later variant is unchanged.

Measurement questions

Is a size letter enough?

No. Use the product's measurements and compare the same method and units.

Can I average conflicting measurements?

Keep the source values separate and resolve the method or evidence gap first.

Is insole length the same as foot length?

No. Record them as different quantities and do not assume a universal conversion.

What if a QC ruler is unreadable?

Mark the value Unknown and request a readable view if that service is available.
